Vintage Fortified
Wine
Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified was first produced in 1997, when sixth generation winemaker Chris Killeen began blending Portuguese varieties with Rutherglen staples Shiraz and Durif.
The exact composition varies from vintage to vintage, but typically includes Touriga Naçional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Cão – along with the Shiraz and/or Durif.
The varieties are crushed and fermented on skins for only a few days. The ferment is stopped using a low strength grape spirit, then the clarified wine is sent to large seasoned oak barrels to age.
Select parcels are carefully blended to reach the desired style. The wine is then bottled and aged further prior to release.
Rich red, Stanton & Killeen Vintage Fortified has lingering flavours of spicy dark fruits, and complexity from the grape spirit. It displays some fruit sweetness but finishes dry.
Enjoy young, or leave it to evolve over decades. Drink soon after opening. Cellaring potential is 30 years.
